A NOTE OF REASSURANCE - CORRECT AS AT 9 NOV 2013

There have been media reports of Vietnam having started to evacuate people from the path of Super Typhoon Haiyan after the storm tore across the Philippines.

Haiyan is expected to make landfall in central Vietnam early Sunday and mass evacuations have begun in central Danang and Quang Ngai provinces as Vietnam goes on high alert. Many schools in the affected area have closed and people from vulnerable low-lying coastal villages are moving to temporary typhoon shelters set up in public buildings on high ground.

Danang and Quang Ngai are 800 to 900 km to the north of HCMC and along the eastern coast -

While there has been some heavy rain and ankle-deep flooding of some minor country roads, we have not been adversely affected and only had to swop Day 2 with Day 3 programmes. 9 Nov 2013, for example, was bright, hot and sunny in the Cu Chi and HCMC areas.

Even if Haiyan were to hit central Vietnam on or around Sunday, HCMC would probably not be badly affected, if at all.
